Panels can be interlined and/or blackout lined to keep the cold out during the winter and block the sun and heat in the summer. Cellular and Roman shades can also be blackout lined to provide an extra layer between the inside of your home and the outdoor elements.

When selling your home window treatments actually increase the value of the property because they complete a space and off the insulating properties discussed above. If you have dark trim, a dark lining will fade away from the outside whereas white lining will be a huge contrast. Use the same color of lining throughout the house so that there is consistency in color from the road. And be sure to consider what the back of a roman shade looks like from the road....it should be neat as possible and the headrail should be hidden either by the trim or with a piece of lining.

Big box window coverings are produced to fit just a generic sized window. If you have tall ceilings or crown molding, getting those treatments to work on your windows can be a hassle. Custom window treatments are made according to the exact measurements taken and every window can be a little different. Just 1/4" can make a huge difference in how a shade fits into a window or where a panel hits the floor.
