Drapery Hardware...the lipstick of window treatments!

As a drapery fabrication studio I see a lot of hardware. I admit that I LOVE hardware, probably more than I love beautiful fabrics. It can make or break a window treatment design. And if used correctly, it will enhance the overall beauty of a room.

There are a lot of considerations when choosing hardware. Things such as will the curtains need to function? If so, a traverse rod can be a great option. If you are using stationary panels, different types of drapery headers can be applied. Such as rod pocket, pleats, tabs, and grommets just to name a few. Hardware medallions can be used for valances as well as rods and rings. The combinations and styles are endless!!

One of the most important considerations is the budget allowed for hardware. Solid iron and hand finished will be at the top of the price list.

While wood and metal will be more affordable, they can still be customized with gorgeous finials or sleek end caps for a modern look. My clients use all of these types of hardware and all are equally beautiful.

On the left is a wood rod with wood rings and finials. On the right is a metal rod with metal rings and finials. Notice how they both fit the decor of the rooms they are a part of and how the fabrics look beautiful with them.

Valances can be hung from medallions as shown in the two outside photos above or they can hung from a rod with rings as in the middle picture.

As you plan and design your next drapery project, please consider the hardware you will use. Be sure it looks great with your fabrics and that it's function matches your needs. And if you just don't know what you want you are welcome to call me!

Until next time,

Amanda
